Intercontinental Boston's RumBa is a rum-themed specialty bar celebrating Boston's historic rum trade. The pewter bar displays an exclusive collection of vintage rums showcased on recessed shelves, back lit, to reflect its warm and inviting colors. RumBa features a cut block mesquite wood floor, a Venetian plaster ceiling, and two plasma screen TV's. Rumba is a great place for an after dinner cocktail or latte and on the night we were there (Thursday night) it got fairly hoppin'. The mysterious Champagne Bar, with its hidden "Moulin Rouge" theme, emanates deep reds, burgundies and cabaret colors. This bar is private, secluded and only accessible through sliding mahogany wooden doors.

In the shadow of the now defunct and much sketchier Martin's Townhouse is Biddy Early's, a divey financial district standby with a diverse clientele. Totally dependent on the office lunch and after-work crowd (they close on weekend evenings) Biddy's offers good service and good value. Step inside on the lunchbreak rush and you will notice that the bar is packed with various people, like bikers to verizon union workers to businessmen. The bartender, Neimh is awsome. She is at the top of her game everyday. Never forgeting about anyone, even when the house is packed!! An upscale dive with buckets of beer at $15 for 5 bottles, Juke box, decent food at lunch and dinner.

Posh Radius has everything most of its upscale competitors lack: classic but hip style; unpretentious, out-of-this-world service, and food so good it'll make you weak at the knees. Radius restlessly reinvents its menu every month, and will personalize 6- and 9-course tasting menus ($85 and $125). The soothing red glow softens the minimalist dining room, and the attention to detail extends from meticulously prepared dishes that resemble works of art to bud vases in individual bathroom stalls. While the prices may be steep, don't expect anything other than top-notch at Radius. Appetizers $12-17. Entrees $27-42. This upscale, European-style restaurant and lounge is in the heart of Boston's Financial District. Starters include lobster bisque and macaroni fritters. The International Restaurant & Pub boasts a top-notch dinner menu with filet mignon, lamp chops and roasted duck cooked to perfection. Recently, the spot was closed for renovations. Many bars in the Financial District resign themselves to being a bumping after work watering hole Mon.-Fri. with dead weekends. Revolution Rock Bar is not. With nightly events, live music, a great menu, and even family events, Rock Revolution is awake and rocking (pardon the pun) while the rest of the Financial District sleeps.

Housed in the old location of Pizza Oggi, Lobby Bar & Kitchen is a sleek and modern new addition to the increasing number of new hot spots in the Financial District. The designers of City Bar at the Lenox hotel created a sleek spot designed for lunch and after work drinks for the office drones occupying the neighborhood during the day, and open for dinner and cocktails as well.

The Meritage Restaurant boasts one of the best views in all of Boston on the harbor. The decor is upscale and sophisticated. The service is tremendous. Each dish was presented beautifully and cooked to perfection. One of the best meals in Boston, but pricey. Try the martini with blue cheese-stuffed olive, it's fantastic. Meritage is the culmination of Chef Daniel Bruce’s 13 years a chef for the Boston Wine Festival where he pairs more than 200 dishes each year with outstanding wines from around the world. Tip: One benefit of dressing up for Meritage is appearing more huffy and stuffy than you really are, enabling you to crash high-class company parties at the top-notch downstairs bar.

Located within the Boston Harbor Hotel, this pricey place is a definite special occasion hangout and maintains an old-school style. Hardwood panels, leather couches, and most importantly strong drinks and a late night menu make this classy seafood pub a fun alternative to fancier dining, without losing the view and the menu caliber of the other BHH restaurants.
