The Dewey Square Parks are a wonderful new addition to the downtown landscape and are a key park of the Rose Fitzgerald Kennedy Greenway. Nestled between the South Station transportation hub and the Financial District, this expanse of open lawns, young gardens, and footpaths brings another slice of green to downtown’s cobbled, mostly commercial neighborhoods. In addition to ushering thousands of South Station commuters through this new landscape, the parks host urban markets, performance spaces, horticultural and art installations, and other four season amenities.
The Greenway is managed by the Rose Fitzgerald Kennedy Greenway Conservancy, Inc..
The Massachusetts Turnpike Authority has installed an interim landscape to improve the visual and functional appeal of the area pending their future development. However, control of the Dewey Square Parks will now fall to Rose Fitzgerald Kennedy Greenway Conservancy who are working with the Massachusetts Horticultural Society to significantly enhance this interim landscape with additional garden plantings.
