City Point
Another major neighborhood in South Boston is next to Dorchester Heights and it is named City Point. Just like Dorchester Heights and other communities in South Boston, this neighborhood is undergoing significant development creating many redeveloped homes and condos with great views. City point is on a hill overlooking Dorchester Bay and
Pleasure Bay. The street boundaries that delineate City Point are Dorchester avenue on the west, it may be the area bounded by William J Day Blvd on the south, Farragut road to the East,, and E 1st to the north. Streets in this area are predominantly one way routes.
Independence Square Park and the Christopher J Lee playground are popular destinations for locals and tourists.
At the eastern end of the city point area is a Penninsula with
Fort Independence. This area was once an island and is still called
Castle Island, but was joined to the mainland in the 1920s and 30s.
Like Dorchester Heights, City Point reflects much of Boston and Massachusetts past and with current development it is leading the way into the future. Many young professionals and families are moving to the area, drawn by its developing housing opportunities and proximity to downtown Boston.
