Ace's High is an old, large Irish bar in South Boston. Its very dive-y with cheap drinks. Its a real fun, local place especially around St. Patrick's Day. Credit cards not accepted.

Murphy's Law is a pub that has a distinct atmosphere. This is a traditional South Boston watering hole. Intimate in scale, it has a relaxed feel that is underlined by its idiosyncratic decoration of watercolor paintings, Irish maps and local sports team paraphernalia, in addition to the expected televisions, video games and dart boards. Unexpected elements include the barbie dolls and old superhero characters above the bar, which was filmed for Ben Affleck's movie, "Gone Baby Gone." Also, Murphy's Law served as the dive bar location for the Christopher Walken-Morgan Freeman flick "The Maiden Heist."

If you are a resident of Southie, you definitely know, or know of the Playwright. Voted the Best Neighborhood Bar of Southie of 2004, the Playwright is a fun and classy bar that keeps the locals and yocals alike keep on coming back. Not only a great place to quench your thirst with a group of friends, the Playwright offers upscale pub fare at a reasonable price. Always a good place to catch the game, the Playwright is also available to be rented out for private functions and open most major holidays.

The Franklin Cafe's relaxed charm and delicious fare is finally spreading it's way South. Opened the last week of November, Franklin Southie is bringing relaxed but delicious casual fare to Broadway Square. Serving a late dinner until 1:30 am, saddle up to the bar and eat up the local art, cool clientele, and happening dining scene at this new place.

The very small sign above the door simply states Shannon's. Shannon's is a Southie bar, a neighborhood institution if you may. No need for pretense, you will not get any "creative cocktails" here. Just cold, cheap beer, interesting local clientele, bar games, and good, clean fun. If you have an aversion to a thick Boston accent, you might want to think twice about checking out the Shannon. Touted a great dive bar by many patrons.
